Story

Kiveton Park Meadows is a Creative Partnerships BDR school which is totally committed to whole school change. Lead by a dynamic Head Teacher with a supportive staff and innovative project ideas, the junior school in Rotherham have now developed the confidence to commission artists, writers and film makers to instill creativity into the curriculum.

Head Teacher Kevin Madeley believes his staff have changed as a result of working with CP support engaging top creative artists from Opera North and Phoenix Dance:

“We have learnt so much during our work with such talented creative artists. We have all become more creative, more innovative and far more ambitious. Plus we have all sung opera! The school is on a creative journey and it is a really exciting time.”

Pupils were encouraged to use movement, poetry and their own imaginations to uncover the mystery of the Jabberwocky. The aims were to develop as authentic reflective writers and, through studying the poem, improve reading abilities while encouraging active team work.

Kiveton Park Meadows look forward to another exciting school year collaborating with Creative Partnerships BDR with the introduction of ‘The Box’ project. Pupils will explore a mysterious container and attempt to trace its origins, leading them on a quest which will take staff and children to historical cities around Britain, with links to the Normans, Celts and Vikings. This whole-school cross-curricular project will involve pupils exploring history, archaeology, art, design, enterprise and marketing, gaining a financial insight into the cost of running a school trip, developing links between learning at school and the professional working world. Drama, dance and speaking and listening will all be enhanced as core aspects of the creative learning process alongside film, photography and digital products such as DVD and web movies.
