Visual Artist
Louise Atkinson is based in Leeds and has been working as a freelance artist and educator for the past two-and-a- half years.
Creative Partnerships BDR is extremely pleased to involve Louise in the next phase of creative projects happening in the region.
She works in sculpture and installation using textiles, paper and bookmaking and has recently worked with Leeds City Art Gallery, Breeze International Youth Festival and Sheffield Arts Education.
Louise has previously worked with young offenders and said:
“I enjoy teaching new skills and am excited by the chance to work with Creative Partnerships, who encourage more autonomous learning.”
Louise’s influences derive from ideas about identity and the human condition, while some of her most recent work – the sewn, stuffed sculptures - allude to the comfort associated with stuffed toys, but the reality is much deeper and more challenging.
It was at the tender age of eight that Louise’s work was selected for an exhibition and she decided to dedicate her life to art. Now, Louise can see the importance that creativity has in the lives of young people. She particularly enjoys linking art with the curriculum, such as looking at metaphors through materials, book binding and print making. She wants to involve young people in every process of creating art, from research to practical work.
