"In terms of impact, we are now thinking about how we teach and how pupils learn. It works-the children want to talk about their feelings" - Colin McVeigh, CP Co-ordinator

Edlington Secondary School, in partnership with Proper Job Theatre Company and funded by Creative Partnerships BDR has impacted on learning by introducing emotional literacy into the classroom.

Working with LEAP pupils, who were identified in Year 6 as those who might struggle in secondary school, Proper Job used a dynamic approach, involving drama workshops and intensive consultative processes to develop the pupils' emotional literacy-helping them to identify their feelings, explore reasons for their behaviour and manage it in order to successfully achieve their goals.

Proper Job has also worked extensively with three of Edlington's teachers, allowing them to explore the links between creative and traditional ways of learning.

Pupils involved in the Creative Partnerships BDR project were able to offer input on their own learning, feedback their thoughts after lessons and articulate the ways in which they enjoy learning, while teachers noted changes in their empathy, curiosity and motivation. One teacher said: "The students' confidence continues to increase. They are more confident in spoken tasks than GCSE students!"

Proving hugely successful, staff at the school have requested further CPD and Proper Job, with the help of Creative Partnerships BDR, hope to develop creative teaching techniques on a deeper level, continue to work with the current group of pupils and also run the project with the next year 7 LEAP group.
